In August 2023, students from the "Action Team" of the GREENUS project and volunteer students of Can Tho University (CTU) organized an exciting event with an important message: "Waste Separation from Source" to promote the habit of waste separation for kids. This event took place at 08 schools around Can Tho city, Vietnam:

  1. My Khanh nursery school
  2. An Binh nursery school
  3. Viet Uc nursery school
  4. My Khanh primary school
  5. My Phuoc primary school
  6. Phan Ngoc Hien high school
  7. An Khanh high school
  8. Nguyen Viet Hong high school

The "Waste Separation from Source" event is part of the action plan aimed at creating an "Eco-Campus" within the GREENUS Project. The Project donated waste separation bin sets, plastic trays for raising vegetables by compost, and GREENUS posters. The event promotes the responsibilities, loves, and methods for environmental protection for the younger generations. During the event, students learn the importance of waste separation and practice waste separation at school and at home. We hope that such an event will spread the good habit of waste separation in the community.

Rather than disposing of waste into a single container as was previously done, students and staff now engage in waste segregation by utilizing four separate bins, each designated with a specific color and easily identifiable labels. Items such as paper, cardboard, newspapers, and paper food packaging are placed in the yellow bin designated for recyclables. Plastic bottles, plastic cups, plastic bags, and plastic straws are deposited into the blue bin. Glass bottles are appropriately sorted into the green bin. Meanwhile, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, instant noodle containers, milk cartons, and other aluminum-based materials are allocated to the red bin.

During the event, the "Action Team" introduced the "GREENUS" project to students and staff, exhibited informative posters, and provided comprehensive guidance on waste separation. They also addressed frequently asked questions such as "Why is source separation of waste important?", "What are the benefits of waste separation?", "How do we properly separate waste?", and "When should this practice be implemented?

The event not only demonstrates a commitment to environmental conservation but also fosters this crucial habit within the younger generation. It marks a significant step in environmental preservation and the pursuit of a sustainable future.
